To be done the day before your exam

1. Discontinue all aspirin, aspirin-containing products, iron and vitamin E one week prior to the procedure.

2. If you are taking arthritis medication, discontinue 48 hours prior to your procedure

3. Please notify our office if you have an artificial heart valve, history of heart valve infection (bacterial endocarditis), new vascular graft, recent pacemaker, congenital heart disease, or you are taking blood thinner medication (coumadin, heparin, persantine, plavix, or lovenox). You will need medical clearance from your cardiologist in order to temporarily discontinue the coumadin a few days before the exam.

4. One week before your procedure: Fill your prescription for HalfLytely bowel prep kit with flavor packs at your pharmacy. Follow the steps below on the day before your exam.

  • Three (3) days prior to the exam: avoid all roughage and fiber foods, such as whole grains, raw vegetables, or foods with seeds or skins. ** See below for suggestions **
  • The day before the exam you will be on clear liquid diet all day starting with breakfast. You are not to eat any solid foods, only clear liquids. ** See below for examples **

5. You may take any blood pressure of heart medication the morning of the exam with a sip of water very early in the morning.

6. Have someone come with you. You will be sedated for the procedure and will not be allowed to drive yourself home. You cannot take a taxi home unless you are accompanied by a family member or friend.

Bring a list of current medications with you on the day of your procedure.

"Clear liquids allowed : Water, Apple Juice, White Grape Juice, Iced Tea, Gatorade (No red or purple), Broth/Bouillon, Jello (No red).
